Radioactive Waste Management
Various types of regulated radioactive materials and machines are used at Florida Institute of Technology (Florida Tech) for research and educational purposes. The radiation safety program established at Florida Tech ensures that radioactive materials, machines, and wastes are handled in a manner that protects the health and well-being of all personnel involved.
Radioactive waste is defined as any radioactive material that is not specifically provided for by regulation. Radioactive waste can be categorized into three forms: solid waste, liquid waste, and scintillation material. Any research or educational procedure that generates radioactive waste, in any quantity, must be pre-approved before experimentation can commence. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) listed in the contacts pane.
